BREAKING: Two Camden Officers Shot On National Night Out

Two Camden police officers were shot Tuesday night.

Camden, NJ - Two Camden police officers were shot Tuesday night, as multiple National Night Out events were taking place in the city.

According to NBC10, a male and a female detective were at Mount Vernon Street and Broadway around 8:30 p.m. when a gunman shot them.

The gunman got away and police are actively hunting him.

No suspect description has been released at this time. A manhunt is underway.

Both officers were transported to Cooper University Hospital and are expected to survive.

The shooting comes during National Night Out as police departments around the country attend events to help bring the police and community closer together.

UPDATE: The two detectives were in plainclothes in an unmarked car stopped at a red light when a gunman ambushed them, shooting 10-25 rounds at them through their windshield.

An ambush is an attack that occurs from a concealed position where the attacker has been laying in wait. That didn't happen here. That is why this is not properly described as an "ambush."

Until we start making these crimes punishable by death no matter what state or whether the officer's survive or not. No more years setting around only six months at the most! As a matter of fact anyone convicted of murder,rape,sexual assault and molesting children. Gang member's,drug dealers and so fourth. No age requirements so instead of saying he is just a child no longer works. How many would still be willing only a few.It would not stop all but it would really cut it back.
