Palmdale, CA – Police were investigating reports of an active shooter on the campus of both Highland High School and Manzanita Elementary School in Palmdale on Friday morning.
There were reports of shots heard near Manzanita Elementary School nearby to Highland High School at about 7:30 a.m., KTTV reported.
The Palmdale Sheriff’s Office and Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department were on the scene at the elementary school.
Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy Charles Moore told CNN that authorities were responding to multiple reports of a man with a gun.
Police received reports of shots having been fired in the high school at about 7 a.m. on May 11, according to KSWB-TV.
Classes had been scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m., KSWB reported.
CBSLA reports that one person drove themselves to the hospital after being injured, but it's not clear if they were shot.
Update: One student was shot in the arm during the incident on Friday morning.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told KTTV that a firearm had been recovered at the scene.
Deputies also said they had searched nearby Manzanita Elementary School after reports of shots heard there. Authorities cleared that building and did not find anything, KTTV reported.
