Moore, OK - Oklahoma Highway Patrol Lieutenant D. Heath Meyer, age 43, remains in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle on Friday night, July 14, according to NewsOK.com.

The incident occurred about 10:15 PM as Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers were pursuing a vehicle on I-35 near Tecumseh Road. Lieutenant Meyer was putting out stop sticks near I-35 and I-27 when he was struck by a vehicle. He was transported to an Oklahoma City Hospital in critical condition.

OHP Lieutenant Kera Philippi said that it is not clear if the driver in the pursued vehicle was the one who hit Lieutenant Meyer, but he did not stop after the trooper was struck.

DaAngelo Ladon Burgess, who was the driver of the vehicle, was arrested and was charged with several felonies, including assault on an officer, and causing great bodily injury while unlicensed.

Lieutenant Meyer is a 12-year veteran of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, and graduated from the 55th Academy in 2005.

According to KFOR, two separate crashes involving Oklahoma Highway Patrol cruisers occurred as the troopers were enroute to assist Lieutenant Meyer. One crash occurred at S.W. 59th and Santa Fe in Oklahoma City. A second crash occurred at Memorial and Rockwell, also in Oklahoma City. No further details were given about those crashes.

A subject named Sonny Ramirez is believed to have "crucial" information about the incident. Troopers are looking for Ramirez, and witnesses who saw the pursuit or were in the area, and are asking for the public's help.

If anyone saw the pursuit "as it continued from Tecumseh Road", had contact with Burgess before the pursuit, or if they have information on the location of Sonny Ramirez, age 39, please call 866-647-8477, or email the Oklahoma Traffic Homicide Investigators at OHPTips@dps.ok.gov.
