Simi Valley, CA - LAPD Officer Heather Monroe, was killed in a two-car crash involving an Uber driver on New Years Day at the intersection of Sycamore Drive and Cochran Street at around 2:11 AM Sunday morning.

UPDATE 01-01-17 4:30 P.M.: News sources are reporting that the off-duty LAPD Officer killed in this tragic collision has been identified as 30-year-old Heather Monroe.

LAPD Officer Heather Monroe was the passenger in a black vehicle that was traveling southbound on Sycamore Drive and entered the intersection of Cochran Street. The black vehicle that Officer Heather Monroe was traveling in was struck by the Uber driver's vehicle which was traveling eastbound on Cochran Street also was carrying a passenger.

Simi Valley Police Department Deputy Chief, Joseph May, provided a statement to KTLA News saying, "We do believe that somebody may have violated the right-of-way that created this collision."

Off-Duty LAPD Officer Killed in Simi Valley Crash Identified as 30-Year-Old Woman

Police were on scene and were searching area businesses for any possible video surveillance cameras that would assist them in determining the cause of the crash.

The driver of the black vehicle, for which LAPD Officer Heather Monroe was traveling, was transported to a hospital with unknown injuries suffered during the crash. The Uber driver reportedly suffered minor injuries and was also transported a local hospital. The passenger in the Uber driver's vehicle was reportedly not injured.

LAPD Officer Heather Monroe was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police announced that the intersection of Sycamore Drive and Chochran Street would likely be closed for several hours.
