Hero Down: Vermont Corrections Officer Corey Beaudet's Body Found After Call For A Suicidal Male

Officer Beaudet was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on October 18 by Vermont state troopers.

Ira, VT – The recipient of Vermont’s 2015 Corrections Officer of the Year award died Oct. 18 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Vermont Corrections Officer Corey Beaudet, 41, was found dead in the woods nearby the Ira rest area off US Route 4.

Vermont State Police responded to the rest stop for a report of a suicidal male with a gun, according to the VSP web site .

Upon arrival, troopers located the body of Corrections Officer Beaudet in nearby woods.

Police said Corrections Officer Beaudet appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was off-duty at the time.

Corrections Officer Beaudet was a Corrections Officer in Addison County. He had served with the state of Vermont since 1999, and as a corrections officer since 2010.

“Corey was an 18-year, respected community correctional officer in Rutland, and his loss is tragic for his family, his friends, his colleagues and the entire VSEA and Rutland communities," said Corrections Officer Dave Bellini, President of the Vermont State Employees Association, according to VTDigger.

Corrections Officer Beaudet is survived by his fiancé, his parents, two brothers, sister, and other family members.
