Hero Down: Utica Police Officer Benjamin Winkler Dies At 27

Utica Police Department Officer Benjamin Winkler died unexpectedly on Jan. 22.

Utica, NY –Utica Police Department Officer Benjamin Winkler died unexpectedly of natural causes at his home on Jan. 22, the department announced on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old officer was a native of Rodman, and had served with the Utica Police Department for four years, the Observer-Dispatch reported.

He is survived by his parents, Stephen and Lisa Winkler, the Watertown Daily Times reported.

The department will confer full police honors at his funeral service, which will be held on Saturday.

A memorial fund has also been established in his name, and will assist in the creation of a scholarship fund, according to the department. Contributions can be sent to the Northern New York Community Foundation at 131 Washington Street, Watertown, NY 13601.
