Hero Down: Border Patrol Agent Antonio Cordova Killed On Way Home

Two other people were also killed in the incident.

Uvalde, TX - U.S. Border Patrol Agent Antonio Cordova, 27, was killed on Christmas night in a traffic crash. He was off-duty at the time.

Two other people were killed in the crash which occurred about 11:50 p.m. on Farm-to-Market Road 481, in a rural area 25 miles southwest of Uvalde.

A preliminary investigation by Texas Department of Public Safety showed that Ruby Garza, driving a Ford Expedition, struck a wild hog on the roadway. The collision caused her to cross over into the other lane and strike a 2011 Mercedes SUV head-on. Both vehicles then became fully engulfed in flames.

Agent Cordova was the driver and the sole passenger in the Mercedes SUV, according to Uvalde Leader-News.

Garza, 51, was traveling with three passengers: Julia Vasquez, 51, Mayra Vasquez, and Naomi Acuna. Both Garza and Julia Vasquez were also killed in the crash.

Both vehicles were still engulfed in flames when first responders arrived.

Agent Cordova and Garza were pronounced dead at the scene. Julia Vasquez was transported to Uvalde Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Mayra Vasquez and Naomi Acuna were taken to San Antonio hospitals, but their conditions are not known.

Agent Cordova was assigned to the U.S. Border Patrol's Uvalde station, Del Rio sector, and was a member of the Honor Guard. He was returning to his home in Eagle Pass after a work shift when the crash occurred.

He is survived by a three-month-old baby girl and other family members.

A Facebook request for donations has been made for Agent Cordova's family by Enrique Renaldo Trevino, owner of The Edge Health & Fitness located in Del Rio. Specific items as well as monetary contributions are being requested, and can be dropped off at The Edge.
