Mattoon High School teacher Angela McQueen undoubtedly saved lives when she sprang into action and subdued a student gunman in her school's cafeteria. She is a hero and an IEA member. We are proud to call her a union sister. Thank you Angela for your quick action, your extraordinary courage and for sharing your story with us.

God bless our teachers who often times get a lot of bad publicity. She is definitely a hero and deserves to be recognized. Thanks for drawing attention to this story.

What a heroic thing to do. Does anyone think some or all teachers should have their carry a d conceal?

I can relate to the CCW reply, though not in a high school setting. One of my female professors ( ex police chief) had a CCW gun in her purse. She told us where it was in case of a active shooter. But keep in mind were 20 something future law enforcement. While I do believe that teachers should be able to carry, you have the fact that not all high school students know gun safety and may try to take their gun. At the highschool I went to we had students try to bring guns to school for what ever reason and I do believe that they would try to take the teachers if they could get their hands on it..
