How To Stretch Your Marketing Dollars

By Robert Stitt

It does not matter how great your product or service is if nobody knows who you are or what you represent. You have to get your message out, but marketing is expensive. Try these five marketing tips from Black Enterprise and see if they don’t make a difference in your bottom line.

  1. Choose your social media carefully. Blasting your message all over the web is not the most productive use of your time. In fact, most people who need your product or service will probably never find you. Instead, match your content to the right site. If you are selling vintage visuals, try Pinterest or Instagram. If you have a consulting business, you may want to focus your promotion to LinkedIn.
  2. Learn SEO. Search Engine Optimization is what moves your website up in the search rankings. Most people never look past the first or second page of hits during a search, and the vast number try a new search option if they don’t see what they are looking for in the top three or four search responses. If you want to get your page seen and responded to, you have to take the time to learn SEO.
  3. Use Alternative Search Engines. Google is great, but it is not the only search engine out there. If you are utilizing pay-per-click advertising, many other search engines will give you a better rate. Don’t forget to adjust your SEO for each search engine.
  4. Know where your customers go. If you are selling a special leather cream for designer shoes, what websites do people who wear those designer shoes go to? What social media services are they on? Where do the shoe companies that make those shoes advertise? When you match your products to your customers’ locations good things happen.
  5. Chart your site. Does anybody go to your site? There will be no sales if nobody goes there. If they do go there, where did they come from and where did they go to once they left? Google analytics can tell you how many people visited your site, how long they stayed, if they clicked on any other portions of your site beyond the home page, etc. Once you know what is happening, you have the data to make changes.

Everybody wants instant success. The reality is that success takes hard work and dedication. Part of that work is making sure your marking plan is effective. By using the tips listed above, you should have an increased chance of yours being so.
