You may remember when Mariah Carey and Australian billionaire James Packer seemed madly in love, but now the two have broken off their engagement, and Celebrity Net Worth reports that Carey is set to make millions in her settlement.

Packer proposed to Mariah just 10 months after they met, supposedly through her friend Brett Ratner. The two went public with their relationship in June of 2015. The ex-couple reportedly agreed on a deal a few months ago that would have Mariah walk away with a few million dollars and her engagement ring, which is thought to be worth $8 million. The cash and ring combined work out to be $5-10 million for Mariah.

At the time they broke up last year, most people were looking to blame Mariah. Here is some of our past coverage of the breakup: “One close family friend simply told Women's Day, "It’s all over. James had huge reservations about Mariah’s new reality TV show and the fact that she was willing to expose their lives to the world." While this may come as a surprise to the outside world given the sudden news of their courtship and engagement, those close to the family say that things had been going southward for quite some time.

One source says that Mariah's refusal to attend James’s sister Gretel’s 50th birthday in Sydney earlier this year caused some tension and that family matriarch Ros Packer, James's mother, was also having trouble connecting to the singer. The two had also been spending less time together in recent months following Mariah devoting an increasing amount of time to upcoming reality show Mariah's world, which the very private James had little interest in participating in. Equally concerning was Mariah's spending habits. 'James is very generous but Mariah takes it to the next level,' reveals one close friend. Apparently, several close friends even doubted that the two would make it to the marriage stage.”

Many of these reports would later be proven false, and Packer would actually take a share of the blame for the relationship. He mentioned being at a low point in his personal life at the time they got together, and said that she was exciting, fun, and kind. Ultimately, it was just a mistake for both parties—an expensive one for Packer.
