In the wake of his recent first-round drubbing of Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, however, his stardom is reaching brand new heights.
Till’s rapid rise into MMA stardom has led many members of the combat sports world to compare him to UFC lightweight champion and bona fide MMA superstar Conor McGregor. Till himself, however, feels the only comparison that can be made between himself and McGregor is in their shared confidence and work ethic.
“I’M NOT LIKE CONOR IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM, HE’S HIS OWN MAN AND I’M MY OWN (MAN), BUT I BELIEVE EVERYTHING I SAY,” TILL SAID ONTHE MMA HOUR. “AND WHEN I SAY IT I DO IT. I TRAIN HARDER THAN ANYONE. I PUT THE WORK IN.”
While Till doesn’t believe he has much in common with McGregor, he does want to follow in the Irishman’s footsteps and make history as a multi-division UFC champion. In fact, he wants to become the first fighter to hold titles in three divisions.
“THIS HAS BEEN A THOUGHT OF MINE FOR A FEW YEARS NOW, FOR THE LAST TWO OR THREE,” HE SAID. “JUST BECAUSE OFHOW BIG I AM,I KNOW I CAN’T STAY AT WELTERWEIGHT FOREVER AND THE WAY YOU SEE A GUY LIKE CONOR GETTING THE TWO [TITLES].
“TO ME, NOW, THAT’S ALREADY BEEN DONE, SO NOW I NEED THREE [TITLES]. I NEED TO BEAT HIM IN THAT BECAUSE WHEN I SAY I WANT TO BE THE GREATEST, I DON’T WANT PEOPLE TO QUESTION IT AND GO, ‘WELL HANG ON,GSP, JON JONES…”
