A lightweight scrap between Josh Thomson and Patricky Pitbull served as tonight’s Bellator 172 main event in San Jose, California.
Round one begins and Thomoson lands a hard leg kick to start. He follows that up with another leg kick and then another. Good start here for Josh. He fires off another hard kick. Thomson comes forward with a leaping front kick that just misses. Pitbull throws a right that misses the mark. Josh circles and fires off a leg kick that misses. Patricky lands a nice leg kick. Thompson moves for the clinch but Patricky shakes him off. Josh lands another nice pair of low kicks. Pitbull responds with one of his own. Pitbull lands a hard right hand that drops Thomson. Josh quickly scrambles back up to his feet. He circles away and seems to be recovered from the big blow. Thomson with a pair of head kicks but Pitbull blocks both of the attempted strikes. Josh comes forward with a knee to the body. The fighters exchange lefts as round one comes to an end.
Round two begins and both men land good leg kicks early. Josh comes forward with a right hand but eats a left from Pitbull. He’s hurt but gets back up. Pitbull fires off an uppercut and Thomson goes down again. This time Patricky follows up with hammer fists and this one is all over.
Pibull becomes only the second man ever to finish Josh Thomson.
