Making Superhero/Princess Cupcakes to Entertain Your Kids

Nothing makes you connect more as a family than cooking. Check out our recipe for Superhero Cupcakes.

A few months ago we showed you how to make Superhero Cookies and they were so popular that we decided to do a variation for Princess / Superhero Cupcakes for all the cupcake lovers. On a rainy day, there is nothing better to do with your family than bake some cupcakes and then chow down on them! Even if you are not exactly like the Cake Boss, you are going to have no trouble making these delicious cupcakes.

Finding stuff for the kids to do when they are stuck indoors can be brutal. But making tasty treats is always a fun time and it prevents them from watching YouTube for 24 hours a day. I am not what you would call a baking master, but this is the easiest cupcake recipe on the planet, so if I can do it so can you!

What You Need

The list of items we have down below should be enough to make 12 cupcakes. This may not be right though if your kids are like mine and fight over licking the mix off the spoon!

100 g of butter or you can use margarine if you prefer

100 g caster sugar, any brand will do, I usually just go for the cheapest

2 eggs

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

100 g self-raising flour, again just get any brand

How To Make Them

You are looking at about 35 minutes from prep to baked with these and then a further 10 for decorating and about 3 seconds for eating them all!

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 200 C (about 390 F) if you know you are making cupcakes it is a good idea to preheat the oven before you even get the kids involved as they will just complain about how long it is taking!

Step 2: Using a medium sized bowl mix your butter and sugar until it is nice and fluffy. Then add in the two eggs and your vanilla extract.

Step 3: Using your flour, fold and mix it all together until it is one big gooey mess that looks, smells and tastes delicious!

Step 4: Place the mixture in the cupcake cases, I usually find that two good sized spoonfuls are enough.

Step 5: Put them in the oven. They should take around 15 minutes, but keep an eye on them as they can go from done to burnt in no time at all.

How To Hero Or Pretty Them Up!

Now it is time for your family to add their own little style to them. What we like to do is use a butter icing. All you do is mix together some butter and icing sugar and you are good to go. Rather than make one large batch though. Let each of your kids make their own batch and let them go nuts with the food coloring. My two boys used red and green, they could not decide if they were Spider-Man and Hulk or Mario and Luigi. You can, of course, design them however you like if your kids like Frozen then have a think about using pink and blue.

One other fun thing that you can do is once you have carefully spread your butter icing. If you have those little packs of decorative icing that you squeeze out of a packet, you can actually write or put little pictures on them! This is a lot harder than it sounds, but it is always something my kids have had a lot of fun doing.

I think the spider ones would freak them out!
