It looks like President Trump is facing his biggest challenge to date; possible impeachment.
Tom Steyer, who is a billionaire and liberal political activist, has been pushing hard for the impeachment of Trump, who he calls “dangerous” for months. In his most recent attempt, he has released a scathing television ad calling for the president’s swift removal from office. It seems like today at least a few Democrats are listening.
Representative Steve Cohen (D-TN), along with other House Democrats, introduced articles of impeachment earlier today, five in all. According to Cohen, “We believe that President Donald J. Trump has violated the Constitution, and we've introduced five articles of impeachment."
Among the grievances listed about the president are obstruction of justice, two emoluments clause violations, undermining the independence of the federal judiciary and undermining the freedom of the press.
When asked why they had decided to file the articles, one of the bill’s co-sponsors, Representative Luis Gutiérrez (D-IL) stated, "There are many reasons why I think the President is an awful President, an awful person, but not all those reasons rise to the level of impeaching a sitting President. We are not seeking his impeachment because of what he did before he was President.”
