Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released this statement following news reports that the Trump Administration was planning a massive immigration raid in San Francisco and throughout Northern California, with the goal of arresting more than 1,500 people:
“The Trump Administration’s deeply shameful plans to conduct immigration raids in California are an act of pure malice. Hard-working immigrants will be targeted and their families torn apart, simply for being Californians. This vast immigration dragnet is purpose-built to instill fear in our communities. These raids will certainly not make Americans safer.
“The people of San Francisco know that our immigrants are the constant reinvigoration of our community and our nation. We will continue to speak out against the Administration’s cynical, cowardly attempts to turn our local police forces into deportation forces, and we pledge to keep our doors and hearts open to immigrants and newcomers to our nation.”
U.S. immigration officials have begun preparing for a major sweep in San Francisco and other Northern California cities in which federal officers would look to arrest more than 1,500 undocumented people while sending a message that immigration policy will be enforced in the sanctuary state, according to a source familiar with the operation.ng “politics ahead of public safety” in an appearance earlier this month on Fox News. Homan also ominously said the state “better hold on tight,” pledging that ICE would “significantly increase” its operations in the state as a retaliatory measure.
“They’re about to see a lot more special agents, a lot mor
Officials at Immigration and Customs Enforcement, known as ICE, declined to comment Tuesday on plans for the operation.
The sweep—slated to be the largest of its kind so far under Trump’s immigration crackdown—could happen within weeks.
Acting ICE Director Thomas Homan accused Gov. Jerry Brown and California Democrats of puttie deportation officers in the state of California,” he said.

…if police or immigration officials come to your home?
…if police or immigration officials stop you on the street?
…if police or immigration officials come to your workplace?
