It seems the dastardly Republican long-game is now coming to horrifying fruition -- and Paul Ryan (R-WI) just openly admitted as much. After passing a tax bill that will blow up the national deficit by an estimated $1.4 trillion , the GOP is now claiming that we must gut Medicare, Medicaid and other vital social safety net programs in order to... cut the deficit.
Although programs like these keep millions of the most vulnerable Americans -- like the working poor, the elderly, the disabled and children -- out of poverty, the GOP is making their priorities crystal clear: cater to the wealthiest 1% of Americans and let the rest of us eat cake.
In an interview on Ross Kaminsky’s radio show yesterday, Paul Ryan, who is currently the Speaker of the House, exposed the GOP's despicable "strategy," saying, “We’re going to have to get back next year at entitlement reform, which is how you tackle the debt and the deficit."
In case you didn't catch that, Republicans are inflating the deficit by giving tax breaks to their rich donors and corporate masters so they can erroneously claim that social safety net spending is the real culprit — and de-fund these crucial programs out of existence.
In other words, the GOP is being the GOP — and it’s up to us to stop them.
