Indiana church sign: 'Stop Sexual Harassment. Wear Clothes'

This Indiana church has an oh-so compassionate message for the victims of sexual assault. Because OF COURSE they do.

Every day in America some Theocratic lunatic feels free to express their First Amendment Right to be stupid. Last Sunday on the ‘Lord’s Day’ the Emanuel Baptist Church in Jefferson Indiana decided they wanted their turn. They used their ever changing marquee to shame women saying “Stop sexual harassment wear clothes.”

It’s quite refreshing that a Christian Church would be so open to point out the similarities between themselves and the more fringe ideals of other Abrahamic religions, such as the Muslim burka, or the Jewish Orthodox dress code. The grand tradition of religious fantasies that female bodies are repositories of sin. This idea is what keeps women from reporting their abusers for fear of being blamed.

With the #ChurchToo hashtag making increasing waves on Twitter in the wake of the gargantuan #MeToo movement, church leaders would love to shame women into shutting up. In the case of this misogynist, ignorant signage, the pastor claims he had no part in it and doesn’t even know who did.

Many passionate replies from women in town came, pleading for logic from people who literally believe in a Sky Man. "I mean, would you say that to a 6-year-old girl who has been assaulted when they wear overalls and pigtails?” asked Madilyn Shipman a resident of Jefferson. The unbearable truth is that yes, in the Christian mind, Eve is the original sinner, and the responsibility for sexual sin always resides in a woman .
