Temperatures reportedly “hit life-threatening levels,” across large parts of Australia, reaching as high as “47.3 degrees Celsius,” on Sunday in places like “Penrith, a suburb of Sydney.” Not only was the 117-degree Fahrenheit temperature recorded as the hottest day in Penrith so far, it turned out to be the “hottest anywhere in the Sydney area since 1939.”
