100 million Americans suffer from chronic pain -- that’s a whopping 31% of the population.
This reality has resulted in a doubling of prescription opioid use in ten years and with that come overdoses. The CDC has declared an epidemic, as drug overdoses become the leading cause of injury deaths in the US. 60 percent of opioid overdose deaths are people who have legitimate prescriptions. These humans aren’t criminals, they are our neighbors, family, and friends, and they are dying.
Marijuana may be the solution. A massive six year study released last week by the Journal of the American Medical Association showed that in 13 states where medical marijuana is legal, a substantial decrease in opioid deaths occurred. “We found there was about a 25 percent lower rate of prescription painkiller overdose deaths on average after implementation of a medical marijuana law,” lead study author Dr. Marcus Bachhuber said.
To drive that home, In 2010 alone, states with legal medical marijuana saw 1,700 fewer dead from opiate overdoses. That’s one thousand and seven hundred humans saved in one year alone.
So ask yourself, why is Jeff Sessions still on an anti pot crusade?
