Vietnam Veteran, gay rights activist, and leader in the fight to legalize medical marijuana, Dennis Peron is dead at age 72.
He first discovered pot in Vietnam and quickly saw its medical potential. During the AIDS crisis of the 1980s he fought for compassionate use of marijuana for those dying without a cure.
A founding member of the San Francisco Cannabis Buyers Club, he helped push through a town ordinance to legalize medical marijuana. This led to state wide legalization in California, and a cascading effect across the United States.
This man, once shot in the leg by a cop, was a fearless renegade against our ridiculous war on drugs. He leaves behind a brother, Jeffrey, who called him “A man that changed the world.”
