A collection of all the WONDERFUL things Trump says about dictators

Trump loves to heap praise on the dictators of the world. Here are a few of his favorites.

The only thing Trump loves more than himself is a good old fashioned dictator. Yep. He is very fond of heaping praise on the world’s most notorious leaders. It does seem hard to believe that the U.S. president would be so overly fond of communists, dictators, militant leaders, and fascists...but it is Donald Trump in the White House after all. Here is a list of a few of his favorites:

President Xi Jinping of China: the Chinese Communist Party may have just removed the presidential term limits, a move that received a fair bit of criticism from most of the world. However, Trump seems to think it is a great idea. He was quoted at a recent fundraising event discussing the matter, “He’s now president for life. President for life. No, he’s great. And look, he was able to do that. I think it’s great. Maybe we’ll have to give that a shot some day.”

President Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines: Duterte has bragged about killing suspected drug dealers and basically caused a human rights crisis in his reign as president. Trump admires his tough stance on drugs, which he commented on last year saying, “I just wanted to congratulate you because I am hearing of the unbelievable job on the drug problem.”

President Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey: Erdogan has increased presidential power, abused his citizens with lack of due process, and has been criticized by human rights groups. Trump apparently sees all those as positives though, “Frankly, he’s getting very high marks. He’s also been working with the United States. We have a great friendship and the countries--I think we’re right now as close as we’ve ever been...a lot of that has to do with a personal relationship.”

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt: El-Sisi seized power and became president in a coup. He is accused of using excessive force on his citizens and other human-rights infringements, but Trump thinks the two of them really see eye-to-eye. He discussed his approval of El-Sisi last year saying, “We agree on so many things. I just want to let everybody know in case there was any doubt that we are very much behind President el-Sisi. He’s done a fantastic job in a very difficult situation. We are very much behind Egypt and the people of Egypt. The United States has, believe me, backing, and we have strong backing.”

Former President Saddam Hussein of Iraq: Hussein was a dictator that was condemned by many due to the brutality of his leadership, but according to Trump he had the right way of dealing with suspected terrorists. Trump praised his tactics in 2016, saying “He did that so good. They didn’t read them the rights. They didn’t talk. They were terrorists. Over.”

Colonel Muammar Gaddafi Former Leader of Libya: Gaddafi’s leadership was strongly opposed around the world due to his authoritarian violations of human rights. He was also accused of secual abuse and financing terrorism. Trump thinks he was a swell guy, he also claimed that Libya would be better of “if Gaddafi were in charge right now.”

Benito Mussolini Former Prime Minister of Italy: Mussolini was a racist dictator with a penchant for violence, but that didn’t stop Trump from tweeting one of his quotes in 2016. When Trump was called out for it, he responded, “Mussolini was Mussolini...It’s a very good quote.”

President Vladimir Putin of Russia: Obviously, this list would not be complete with mentioning Donny’s love of Vlad. Even though the Russian president has jailed his political opponents, restricted his people’s right to participate in the political process, suppressed civil society, and is accused of torture and making people “disappear,” Trump has nothing but praise and admiration for the man. In September of 2016, Trump gushed, “If he says great things about me, I’m going to say great things about him. I’ve already said, he is really very much a leader. I mean, you can say, “oh, isn’t that a terrible thing’--the man has very strong control over a country.”

Doesn’t it make you feel good about the state of our democracy, knowing that the man in the oval office has such fine role models to look up to?
