(AllHipHop News) A variety of rappers have issued their condolences to legendary comedian/civil rights activist Dick Gregory.

Dick Gregory passed away at the age of 84, on August 19, after falling ill earlier in the week, prompting the cancellation of several appearances.

The trailblazing stand-up comedian recorded groundbreaking albums in the early 1960s and wrote dozens of politically charged books, in addition to his 1964 autobiography, “nigger.”

At the same time, Dick Gregory was a champion for African-American civil rights in the early 1960s, and he even ran for President of the United States in 1967.

Dick Gregory was also known to go on hunger strikes to protest various hot-button issues of the day, including the Vietnam War and apartheid in South Africa.
