Vic Mensa Talks Confronting DJ Akademiks Over ‘War In Chiraq’ Series (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Over the last few years, DJ Akademiks published a YouTube series called The War In Chiraq where the self-described Late Night Creep creates satirical content about Chicago rap stars.

Many of the videos cover the ongoing violence in the city that has led to rappers being killed or jailed.

This week, Chicago native Vic Mensa confronted Akademiks about the Chiraq series on Everyday Struggle.

Mensa blasted the host for “clowning situations that we go through in real life.”

BET caught up with The Manuscript emcee to get more information about why he called out DJ Akademiks on the subject.

“I think it’s important that we not get completely jaded by this crazy time we’re in where anybody can say anything and it reach millions of people,” Vic stated. “We still have to be able to have some perspective on what’s completely out of line and unacceptable.”

The Roc Nation artist added, “It’s just hundreds of videos probably of him just making jokes about all these young, black guys dying and killing each other in Chicago. Can you imagine if there was The War in Iraq [that was] just a joke? CNN or the people that report on the war in Syria are major news outlets. They’re not joking about it. They’re not making jokes about [Abu Bakr] al-Baghdadi from ISIS.”

Mensa also took issue with Akademiks for being someone he sees as “tearing down” his own culture.

After the Vic Mensa Everyday Struggle episode went viral, DJ Akademiks apologized for some of his coverage of Chicago.

“I’m understanding of the [people] who may share a difference of opinion or who may see me as the agitator and I hope one day we can reconcile,” Ak wrote on Instagram. “I apologize to all artist and people from Chicago for giving light to drill music and it may be one [of] the things I did wrong while coming up. I’ve realized a lot within the last few days.”
