J. Cole Shows Support For Suspended ESPN Host Jemele Hill

The politics surrounding the anti-police brutality protests continue to play out on TV and Twitter.

(AllHipHop News) "Protect @jemelehill," posted J. Cole on Twitter. The Dreamville Records head was responding to the trending news about the co-host of ESPN's SC6.

Jemele Hill was suspended by the network over the weekend. The Disney-owned sports channel announced Hill would not be on the program for two weeks over comments she made on Twitter.

ESPN stated:

Jemele Hill has been suspended for two weeks for a second violation of our social media guidelines. She previously acknowledged letting her colleagues and company down with an impulsive tweet. In the aftermath, all employees were reminded of how individual tweets may reflect negatively on ESPN and that such actions would have consequences,” the statement continued. “Hence this decision.

The statement was not clear which tweet by Hill led to the suspension. However, observers suspect it was the veteran sportscaster's comments about NFL owners requiring their players to stand for the national anthem or face being benched.

"This play always work. Change happens when advertisers are impacted. If you feel strongly about [Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones'] statement, boycott his advertisers," wrote Hill. "Just so we're clear: I'm not advocating a NFL boycott. But an unfair burden has been put on players in Dallas & Miami w/ anthem directives. "

She added, "If fans really are that upset about what JJ & [Miami Dolphins owner] Stephen Ross have done, don't call the players sellouts, but you're watching every Sunday."

J. Cole has also been a very vocal supporter of Colin Kaepernick, the former San Francisco quarterback who sparked widespread protests during the playing of the national anthem. Kaepernick's goal was to bring awareness to police brutality, systemic racism, and injustice.

ESPN and the Cowboys (NFL) share a lot of the same advertisers, that's why she was suspended. Race had nothing to do with it...funny, Curt Shilling gets fired for a social media violation and no one budges. He didn't even have a previous issues, tweeted out on thing (not even race related) and was fired.

Not sure how you could even remotely compare the Curt Shilling situation to this.
