Dave Chapelle, And Not $90 Million, Can Get The Fugees Back Together

Forget $90 million, it's all about the art, so says Wyclef Jean in a new interview.

(AllHipHop News) Comedian Dave Chappelle is the only person who can bring hip-hop stars the Fugees back together again, according to rapper Wyclef Jean.

The “Killing Me Softly” hitmakers, composed of Wyclef, Lauryn Hill, and Pras Michel, have been largely estranged from one another ever since renewed tensions between the stars wrecked plans for a new album, a follow-up to their classic 1996 release The Score, after their last reunion in 2004.

Fans have been hoping for another comeback for years, but Wyclef insists the Fugees are done for good unless close friend Chappelle, a huge fan of the group, can work his magic and get them all talking again - just like he did the last time around.

"What could put the Fugees back together? OK. Wyclef's gonna tell you: Dave motherf##king Chappelle," he told Uproxx.com. "Dave really loves, and admires, and understands that intellectual property of rap. For us, it was re-invention, it was incredible."

Various reports have previously suggested the Fugees were even offered a massive $90 million to reform, but Wyclef claims cash would never be their motivation to get back onstage together.

"At the end of the day, it can't be about the money. It has to be about the art," he explains, without confirming or denying the speculated offer. "I'm telling you, man, I've got so many billionaire friends, they are lonely, dude. It's got to be bigger than the check, because the check, you can always get."

However, Wyclef wouldn't be opposed to working with Lauryn and Pras again, and he has urged fans wanting to hear more from the Fugees to call on Chappelle to help out.

The musician says, "He's the one that put us back together last time, so we all need to f**king start pressuring Dave Chappelle, starting today."

The Fugees rose to fame in the 1990s, before initially disbanding in 1997 to pursue solo careers. Their previous reunion ran from 2004 to 2006.
