According to editors at TMZ.com, a burglar stole the “Locked Up” singer’s Tesla Model S electric vehicle, but was forced to abandon the car when its security system shut it down.
Sources close to the musician tell the gossip website the car thief took the car from Akon’s Los Angeles home on Saturday after his garage door was accidentally left open.
However the criminal was reportedly foiled when he parked the car and was unable to restart it due to its security features.
The vehicle was swiftly located using its inbuilt tracking device.
TMZ reports that as the singer is currently in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, family members filed a police report and the matter is now under investigation.
The 43-year-old singer is just the latest high profile victim of crime in the Los Angeles area, with Canadian singer Alanis Morissette, basketball star Nick Young and TV dog trainer Cesar Millan all having their properties burgled.
